Fresh off leading the Dillard girls basketball team to its third consecutive state title, legendary Panthers coach Marcia Pinder has been named the RUSSELL ATHLETIC/WBCA National High School Coach of the Year.

Pinder, the winningest coach in state history with a record of 804-175, will be invited to coach in the WBCA High School All-America Game on March 31 in Denver as part of the award. The game will be played at 6:30 p.m. as part of the events on NCAA Womens Final Four weekend.

Pinder has led Dillard to a Broward County-best seven state titles during her 35-year career. The number of championships is one shy of the states all-time record held by Jacksonville Ribault.

So there are issues with the College Football Hall of Fame’s eligibility criteria for coaches, as discussed at length earlier today. Eliminating those whose career spanned less than 10 years is silly; excluding those with a career winning percentage less than 60 percent is ridiculous. But rules are rules: Howard Schnellenberger deserves a spot in the Hall of Fame, but he’ll continue to be ineligible until the National Football Foundation alters its criteria. For

Rush University Medical Center, in collaboration with the Lymphoma Research Foundation, is holding an “Ask the Doctor” event on lymphoma in the Professional Building at Rush, Room 542 at 1725 W. Harrison St. in Chicago, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Feb. 8.

Dr. Stephanie Gregory, director of the Section of Hematology and professor of medicine at Rush, will be speaking. The program includes an overview of lymphoma, treatment options, research updates and an extensive question-and-answer session.

Leicester East MP Keith Vaz will be visiting Shenton Primary School in Spinney Hill tomorrow to address a group of year five children on his role as a member of Parliament.

Mr Vaz said: “It’s essential children are encouraged to get involved in politics at a young age.”

He said he was looking forward to speak to the pupils.

He added: “Who knows, there may be a future member of parliament sitting in the classroom.”

The winners of the 48th annual BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition 2012 have been announced marking another great year for the Northern Ireland finalists who scooped top awards at the exhibition.

Now it’s the turn of the Belfast Telegraph BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition 2012 Video Diary finalists to be in with a chance to win another amazing prize.

Four Northern Ireland schools who qualified for the BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition 2012 entered and were selected for the Belfast Telegraph BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition Video Diary initiative last December.
