Rush’s school-based health center at the Simpson Academy for Young Women.

This past fall, Rush University’s College of Nursing began its third school-based health center, at the Chicago Public Schools’ Simpson Academy for Young Women, with hopes of addressing health care issues of pregnant and parenting youth.

Less than one year later, the clinic’s innovative efforts are recognized internationally.

TOLEDO — Connect Ohio and the YMCA of Greater Toledo have partnered to offer the Every Citizen Online free basic computer and Internet training program. Through this collaborative effort, area adults are learning how to connect in ways many of us take for granted. Participants of the program are also eligible to take advantage of discounted Internet service and computer purchases.

Mathematically – don’t stop reading – you’d think that having an uneven number of individuals on the to-be-named selection committee would get rid of the chance of a tie; you know, with four people picking one team for the fourth spot and four picking another team.

That’s probably not the case. Here’s one reason: you could make the case that the committee must reach a consensus when it comes to picking the four teams that compete in our future college football playoff. There should be a unified front, goes this line of thought.

Colgates Elise DeRoo 12 was one of two Patriot League student-athletes to be nominated for the 2012 NCAA Woman of the Year Award.

DeRoos nomination was based on her service, leadership, athletics and academics.

Elise DeRoo 12 graduated with a 3.97 grade-point average with a degree in molecular biology.

DeRoo, a native of Newtown, Conn., finished an incredible four-year career at Colgate this spring. She was a dominant force in cross country for two years, capturing the womens individual championships in 2009 and 2010 before taking third at the 2011 event.

DeRoo was also a force within the league in both the indoor and outdoor seasons of track and field during her career.
