Louisiana-Monroe owns the SEC. Not really. No, really: U.L.M. owns the SEC – with a slight caveat. The Warhawks are as good against the SEC as any non-B.C.S. conference program in the country, I should say. Last night, the Warhawks beat Arkansas, 34-31, in overtime, to notch the program’s second win against the nation’s premier conference since 2007. The victory joins that earlier win against Alabama in Nick Saban’s first year; the two wins sandwich seven losses, but that’s neither here nor there.

U.L.M. plays in the Sun Belt – the S.B.C., not the SEC. The Warhawk

A recent study conducted at Tel Aviv University has demonstrated a clear link between racism and a general lack of creativity. As it turns out, people who possess racial essentialist beliefs are more prone to creative blockage.

Guest blogger Alfie Kohn joins Bridging Differences today. He will blog with Deborah Meier for the next month.

Dear Deb,

Thanks for inviting me to join you on this forum so we can be overheard by people other than a waiter when we affectionately poke each other. Of course you’re right that we agree on the big issues—those that all educators most urgently need to be discussing. But perhaps we can stimulate some thought by exploring a few questions on which we see things a little differently.

Whenever it appears that I disagree with someone, I like to begin by figuring out where we’ve parted company. I

Life is complicated and time is short, especially if you are someone who works hard and plays hard. Wasting a precious resource like your time can mean missing out on chances to grow professionally and engage socially, and lets face it, managing the daily administrative tasks that accompany an ambitious lifestyle can be mind-numbingly boring!

For years I had tried to find the perfect productivity/planning tool to help keep me keep organized, on-task, and meet deadlines so I could focus on what’s really important in my life. I tried using many various tools such as:

  • To do lists which Id lose and extremely burdensome to transfer action items from one list to another.
  • Outlook or Google tasks function -  I would miss tasks because of  its linear design (listing tasks as a list).
  • Various types of planners (e.g. Day

When Ben McLemore scored 33 points in an overtime win over Iowa State last Wednesday, it was the most points by a Kansas freshman since Danny Manning dropped 35 on Oklahoma State in 1985.

So being the first freshman this year to be named Big 12 Player of the Week may have been a relatively insignificant accolade. But McLemore, who was named Big 12 Freshman of the Week on Dec. 24, does join an elite group of players by earning the honor. Only three other players in Big 12 history have ever been named the conferences player of the week and freshman of the week in the same season Texas Kevin Durant, Kansas States Michael Beasley and Kansas Mario Chalmers.

McLemore helped Kansas win its first two games in Big 12 play last week, beginning with the thrilling, 97-89 victory over the Cyclones.
