Assault on female inmate leads to prison time
A former guard at the Milwaukee County Jail was sentenced Tuesday to 4 years in prison for sexually assaulting a female inmate in 2009.
James Howard, 30, was convicted at trial in September of two counts of sexual assault with one female inmate but acquitted of similar charges against a second inmate.
The women, ages 21 and 19 at the time, reported that he had threatened them with discipline if they did not have sex with him, according to authorities and a criminal complaint.
Nearly three dozen people submitted letters on Howard’s behalf to Circuit Judge Jean DiMotto, who also added 14 months of extended supervision for Howard after his release.
