A former security guard for Milwaukee County Board Chairman Lee Holloway was sentenced Tuesday to a year in jail for forcing his way into an apartment owned by Holloway and threatening a tenant with a gun in January.
Eric L. Turner, 39, was found guilty at a nonjury trial in May by Circuit Judge Clare Fiorenza on three misdemeanor charges – pointing a firearm, disorderly conduct and bail jumping. Fiorenza had earlier dismissed a count of criminal trespass to a dwelling, also a misdemeanor.
The judge sentenced Turner to consecutive four-month terms in the County Correctional Facility-South for the convictions, with work release privileges.
Turner initially told authorities that he went to the apartment building to look for an individual who had been evicted from the premises, a search that led him to tenant Thelma Murphy’s apartment, according to incident reports. He denied passing along a message to Murphy from her landlord.
But Turner changed his story when an officer told him that Murphy quoted Turner as saying Holloway wanted her out of her apartment, the report said. Turner then said he was told to go to Murphy’s apartment to tell her that she would be receiving an eviction notice, a story that he repeated later in the police interview.
Turner’s attorney, Bridget Boyle, said the convictions would likely end Turner’s involvement with the security business.
Murphy, who testified at Turner’s trial, told reporters Monday that she thought the sentence was fair, and that she had moved out of Holloway’s building.
