An armed robbery suspect accused of exchanging gunshots with a police officer Wednesday is suspected in two other robberies, according to a search warrant issued Thursday.

No one was hit in the shooting, which took place in the parking lot of a Family Dollar store at 3450 W. Garfield St., right after the store was robbed, the warrant said.

Motorcycle Officer Steve Krejeci pulled into the parking lot as the suspect and an accomplice were leaving the store. The suspect opened fire and Krejeci fired back, the warrant said.

Krejeci broadcast a description, and responding officers apprehended the suspected shooter in the 3800 block of W. North Ave. The second robbery suspect was also arrested.

The warrant sought to search rooms where the shooting suspect was living, for evidence from two other robberies in which robbers and their getaway cars had descriptions similar to the two men who robbed the Family Dollar.

The earlier robberies were on Tuesday – one at a liquor store at N. 39th and W. Vliet streets, and the other at another Family Dollar at 4412 W. Capitol Drive.

The warrant, to search rooms in a house in the 2400 block of N. 39th St., was issued and executed, but police wouldn’t say what they found.

The shooter has not been charged, police say.
